What Are YOU Irrationally Committed To?
Seth Godin, author of The Dip, speaks of being “Irrationally Committed” is described as,
“Salespeople and service providers and marketers who are irrationally committed to customer service can completely transform an ordinary experience and make it remarkable.”
As a husband/church planter/connections pastor/friend, I believe that I need to be irrationally committed to the relationships that God has allowed me to be a part of. If, as a pastor, I can overly serve my congregation, my teams, and my leadership, I can help “the church” overcome its negative image and truly BE JESUS to this community. I believe that the church truly is the hope of the world. And I am willing to serve, give, sacrifice, and lead as hard as I can, for as long as I can, as long as God allows me to.
THAT is completely irrational. The pay sucks, the hours are long, and often times, I get complaints over compliments. After long hours of investing in a single person, they leave the church and don’t say ‘thank you’ or even “Have Nice Day!”
I’m no better than you or anyone else. I’m not important, nor am I all that talented. I work hard and I care INTENSELY for people. I believe that God WANTS to bless each and every one of us, and we OFTEN make poor choices. I also believe that I have a responsibility to serve each person that comes into my sphere of influence. It’s irrational, it’s overwhelming, and it’s my call…and I am completely committed to it.
So I ask you, what are you irrationally committed to?
