It was a HARD day, but a GOOD day.  Let’s get to it:

• I hate my alarm clock.  Oh yeah, I said it….
• We changed a few “procedural” tasks, and where we pick the trailer up.  It’s still not a “routine” yet, but it’s getting there.
• It was a difficult day, mainly because we had so few volunteers and a LOT to do.  We had a cool event last Sunday for our 2nd Anniversary, so we all our tables, a kids sound system, and a tent and a few other items that needed to be unload and taken to their rooms.
• Once we had some friends there to help, it was the Cafe, Resource Table, and all 3 kids areas.  About kid are #2, I pulled a muscle in my lower back….and I can personally tell you…that SUCKS!
• We had some friends and family come in from Alpharetta and Texas, which was cool.  I got to see some old friends from my LifePoint days.  It was really great.
• I was mainly in the Welcome Area, but I also helped in the Kid’s Area (for about 20 minutes, we played a game and I corralled some kids)
• Do you ever notice that once 1 kid wants some water, EVERY kid NEEDS water?
• I only caught the last 10 minutes of Scott’s teaching because of all the extra stuff, but what I heard was cool.
• Scott seems to really be hitting it home with the vision that God has given him.  People are starting to really respond to it.
• After church, we got everything torn down and put away.  Then it was off to La Parrilla, for some Mexican with Jimmy & Amy and their 3 girls.
• After we dropped off the trailer, a run to the storage unit, and then home for a little nap and ibuprofen.
• SID’s bother and family was in town this weekend, and they are spending the night with us before we take them to the airport tomorrow.  It’s always great to have family in, and it’s great to have Sarah’s brother in.

WEEKLY LOOK AHEAD

• It’s going to be a cool week, we start our home teams (small groups) this week.  Sarah and I start our team on Wednesdays at 7:00.
• I also will start having a monthly strategy and vision day on Wednesday.  Basically in the afternoons, I will go work out and then spend the rest of my day seeking God’s plan for my ministry and for StonePoint.
• I believe that Sarah, Molly, and I will be heading up to Marietta to hang out with the Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia to let Molly reconnect with her old family. (We are THINKING about getting a slightly older friend for Molly….we’ll see)

I’m not sure how long this series will run, and it will not be sequential. (I’m too ADD for that) But the time has come for me to get all off this junk off my chest about what a Pastor IS, and what they are NOT.  I’m not trying to be provocative, or controversial, for controversies sake, but these ideas need to come out and be said.

Active VS Productive

This is a toughie for many pastors, associate pastors, leaders, employees, etc.  So let’s ask the first real question:  Are you too focused on being ACTIVE or PRODUCTIVE? And yes, there IS a difference.

I can easily spend all day surfing the Internet, reading blogs and news sites, as well as as doing “research” on any number of legitimant topics.  But the real concern is am I being active or am I being productive?

Admittedly, there are days that really need to be active days: deadlines need to be accomplished, commitments need to be fulfilled, and obligations need to be met.  But how many days do I waste by being active, not productive?

I am a fan of Alan Moore.  Haven’t heard of him?  He has influenced our culture in more ways than you can imagine.  He is the author of such graphic novels as From Hell, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen, just to name a few.  These titles have been turned into multi-million dollar movies.  His runs on Swamp Thing, Batman, and WildC.A.T.S. are cornerstones of the comic book genre.

According to WikiPedia,

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a comic book series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Kevin O’Neill. The series was launched in 1999 as part of the America’s Best Comics imprint of Wildstorm Comics. The series spans two six-issue limited series and a hardcover graphic novel, with a third miniseries due to be published by Top Shelf Productions. According to Moore, the initial concept behind the series was initially a “Justice League of Victorian England” but quickly grew into an opportunity to merge all works of fiction into one world. Says Moore: “The planet of the imagination is as old as we are. It has been humanity’s constant companion with all of its fictional locations, like Mount Olympus and the gods, and since we first came down from the trees, basically. It seems very important, otherwise, we wouldn’t have it.” Moore and O’Neill have revealed that they plan to map out many different eras in the League series with Allan Quatermain and Mina Murray (of Bram Stoker’s Dracula) being the two constants.

I LOVED these books.  Also being a fan of C.S. Lewis, I have an affinity towards English authors (meaning FROM England).  If you are a fan of classical liturature, comic books, high intrigue, or biting social commentary, I cannot recommend The League of Extraodinary Gentleman, Vol. 1 & 2 enough!
