As you may, or may not, know, my wife and I, are admitted Disney fans. Take one look at my Flicker page, and all you see is Disney. So it should come as no surprise that I would spend some time unpacking some valuable lessons that I learned in my time at the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World.
“Find your niche, and then find it again, and again.” – Walt Disney, One Man’s Dream Exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studio
Walt Disney was the innovator’s innovator. And one of his driving forces was his desire to find a specific group to market to, his niche. And he would focus all his efforts towards that niche and when he figured it out, he would fine-tune his findings. Let’s take a page from Walt’s play book and apply his process to church.
Imagine that you were Walt Disney and you were starting a church:
- Would you settle for a “template style”worship experience, or would you take extra time to carefully craft each worship experience to fit the message that God has given to you?
- What would you do differently in relation to how your people experience your services?
- How would your worship area look and feel to visitors and regular attenders?
- Would you ever be satisfied with how you communicate God’s message?
- Would you be willing to totally overhaul what you do on a day to day basis to go after the niche that God has called you to reach?
