Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh, Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?” And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty.” Genesis 47:7-9
I am reading the Bible through in 2009. And today, I was reading Genesis 46 & 47. And the above passage caught me. When asked his age, Jacob, or Israel, answered, “The years of my pilgrimage are..”
The word pilgrimage means “the course of life on earth especially one to a shrine or a sacred place“. So Iask myself these questions:
- Do I view my life like I am I on a pilgrimage?
- How can I make my life a pilgrimage for Jesus Christ?
- Do have the maturity to think, in every situation, like I am on a pilgrimage with others?
- Has my entire life been a pilgrimage to Jesus or to Satan?
- Who am I honoring in my pilgrimage, Jesus Christ or myself?
Good questions…maybe you should ask yourself some of them.
So, how old are you?

Hhhhmmmmmm. The Journey is long my friend. Luckily for us we have the forgiving grace of Jesus Christ when we do falter along our pilgrimage. Were it not for grace I would be fuel for the fires of hell.
Yes, a long journey, but I wonder if I would answer in the same way…How old am I? The passing of time, but not the steps of the journey. And what has my life been a journey to. Only in the last 10 years, has my life been focused on Jesus Christ, and on yin the last 5 as seriously as I have been. And in the last 12 months, even more so. It’s maturity and realization of your place in the universe. Jacob, or Israel, had a pretty good grip on who, whose, and what he belonged to. It was a great lesson that i did not expect this AM.
