A New Beginning

I have a couple of friends who have been a part of church-wide fast called the Daniel Fast. And pastor buddy of mine has been on it for a while, and he is singing it’s praises. In fact, his allergies have subsided, which is a plus. The Daniel Fast is a Biblically based, partial fast based on the Book of Daniel.

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” – Daniel 10:2, 3

So, after some prayer and a little discussion with Sid, we decided that we would go on a Daniel Fast. I have weight issues, and I need to eat healthier, but that is not the reason that I am choosing to fast.

I desire a closer relationship to Jesus Christ, and through this fast, I believe that I can take a few steps closer to Him. I can focus on Him instead of food. I can think about His suffering, as I struggle with hunger and detoxing. I can pray instead of eating. I can fast instead of feast.

This Daniel Fast is my line in the sand, my declaring who I belong to. This is the beginning of the next chapter in my life. I am completely giving myself over to Him and allowing Him to do whatever He chooses.

They may take the house, I may never get another decent job again, but I will be serving my Savior and doing what I am called to do. I am totally surrendering myself to God.

I will be praying for you, please pray for me. On May 18th, 2009 at 12 noon, it will be over. We will see what God does in those three weeks.
