Daniel Fast: Week Three

It’s the last week of the Daniel Fast.  I think that Sarah-Irene and I were VERY ready for it to be over.

From a purely physical side, we both lost weight and feel MUCH better.  We put the fast on hold on Wednesday, due to our anniversary, and the next day, we both felt a little…funky.

We both decided that even as the fast has ended, we want to continue to follow most of the guide likes.  We want to keep eating mainly fruit and vegetables, but substitute some of the proteins and include fish, chicken, and some beef.  We won’t drink many caffeinated drinks or go crazy with sugar, we’re going to enjoy the detox as long as we can.

We’ve also been riding bikes.  As long as out bottoms hold up, we’re going to keep riding.  We’ve gotten up to 5 miles, I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but we’ve gone from nothing to 5 miles in only a few days.

From the spiritual side, we’ve both been growing in our faith.  We’ve been asking God for some answers and direction, and I do believe that we are getting a little of both.  Obviously, we’re concerned about my job and our house situations, and where God wants us to be.

The funny thing about seeking God and His will, you are often required to take the first (usually several) steps towards where you believe God wants you.  And God has responded.  There are some things that are happening that I cannot discuss yet, but it’s exciting and TRULY a God thing.

So, what will the lasting effects of the Daniel Fast?

A closer walk with Jesus.  More focus on our diets and exercise routines. And a greater desire to follow God, even when it doesn’t seem to make sense.

I’m glad we fasted, and I am sure that we will fast again, but I am glad it’s over, and I am looking forward to a cheeseburger.

Daniel Fast: Week #2

It’s Monday, and that means that we’ve successfully made it to the 2nd week of our Daniel Fast.  Sarah-Irene and I are feeling great, and even riding bikes every night (we’re up to 5 miles after 2 days).  Sid has lost almost 7 pounds and I have lot a little over 12 pounds.  We’re loving what we’re eating, and we have even been able to share the message of the fast to a few people. I won’t lie, we put the fast on hold for 2 meals, but even then, we jumped right back into it, and we continued to lose weight and the reason we put it on hold, was to minister to someone over a meal.  Not, exactly as the fast dictates, but we believe that God will honor what we did.

But the real reason we’re doing the fast is to grow closer to God.  And I believe that we are.  We focus more on His will, and what He wants for us.  It’s really amazing to see what God is doing in our lives.  I have had some amazing spiritual conversations with some very key people, it’s just been awesome.

This week is the last week, and we are already looking forward to what God is going to do.  Please pray that we stay focused and don’t lose it right at the last minute!

Daniel Fast – Week #1

Week 1 in the books.  Sid and I are adjusting well to the new diet.  It’s been a HUGE adjustment, but after a few days of headaches (mine) and dealing with some real temptation, we’ve come through week 1 with flying colors.

God is moving in both of our lives in some very interesting ways, and one amazing by-product of the change of diet is I have lost 6 pounds (as of Monday AM) and Sid has lost 5 pounds.  I feel much better, physically and mentally.  Who knew that frozen grapes would be so awesome?

I must also confess that Sid is cooking some amazing dishes as well.  We purchased the Daniel Fast Cookbook, and it was money well spent. We’ve tried the potato and leech soup, mushroom soup, and stir fried tofu and vegetables…it’s been really filling and tasty.  If you’d like to learn more about the Daniel Fast, click HERE.

I think that, overall, we’re very excited about what God is doing in our lives, and we have the Daniel Fast to thank for starting it all. We’re both looking forward to next week.  Please keep us both in prayer, that God reveals His truth to us and show us His will for our lives.

“But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 3:8-9
