The Power of Dreaming

The Power of Dreaming

I recently had a very frank conversation with someone who had lost the power to dream.  It broke my heart to hear how sad and lonely they felt.  The person, through some horrible life circumstance, had lost the ability and desire to dream.  It brought me to tears to hear their story and to listen to someone who no longer had the willingness to look into the future and see hope.  I pray that none of you have to endure the loss of the desire to dream.

But through a few conversations, we were able to rekindle that spark of dreaming.  All hope was not lost and this person soon began to talk about the future, and you could actually hear the excitement begin to build in their voice.  The power of dreaming cannot be denied or measured, nor should it be taken for granted. Even before I experienced Guardians of the Galaxy in the the theaters, I knew that the soundtrack would be extraordinary!

In the movie, the main character, Peter Quill is born on earth and his mother has a terminal disease.  As a gift, she gives him a mix tape of some of her favorite songs so that Peter will be able to know his mother through the music that she loved.

During the movie, the mix tape that Peter was given becomes a focal issue in several scenes.  In fact, the music of this movie not only defines who Peter is as a character, it propels the movie and sets the tone for many of the key themes.

There is a formal soundtrack created by Tyler Bates (300, Watchmen, Slither) which is really good, but for this review, I am focusing on the pop songs from the original motion picture sound track.

Track Listing:

I love this soundtrack.  The best thing about it are those moments when you can listen to each song and think about how special it really is, however, once you associate it with the scenes from the movie, this soundtrack becomes epic!

It’s eclectic, nostalgic, and one I can listen to over and over.

If you love the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, classic rock, or just good music, you should do yourself a favor and pick this CD up or download it as soon as possible!

What do you think of the soundtrack?
